Know your candidates!
I have worked as an Election Poll Manager for quite a number of years and for various elections including primaries and generals, and for local, state, and national elections. The voting precinct is truly one of my favorite places to be on election day not only because I love to vote, but also because I enjoy watching citizens exercise their fundamental right to make their voices heard.
Sadly, voter turnout is never what it should or could be. Voters sometimes overlook local elections because they don't realize how important they are. The outcome of local elections can have the biggest impact on our daily lives because the candidates who win their municipal elections are the ones who will make decisions on public safety, infrastructure, and zoning. If you care about these issues, then voting in the local election is the best way to ensure your voice is heard.
So, you are already planning to vote in the next election. Fantastic!
But, do you know your candidates?
Learning about the candidates in an upcoming election is crucial. When you understand a candidate's positions, priorities, and qualifications you can make an informed decision that aligns with your values and reflects your vision for our city.
Fortunately there are several resources to help you learn the candidates in the November 7th City Council General and Special Elections:
Vote411.org provides a handy voter guide which features questions answered by all the candidates in the election: https://www.vote411.org/plan-your-vote
Greater Good Greenville produced the Simple Civics Podcast which features short interviews with the candidates: https://simplecivicsgreenvillecounty.org/city-of-travelers-rest-getting-to-know-your-candidates/
The Greenville Journal published a "Meet the Candidates" article here:

I hope you will take the time to check these resources. The answers are quite revealing!
I respectfully ask for your vote on November 7th, 2023.
